An RBT resume with no experience should say three things clearly: the role you want, your credential status stated accurately, and a few real examples of following procedures and keeping records. You do not need ABA history to start. You need honest wording and specific bullets.
Get the credential line right
This is where new applicants slip. A completed course is not an RBT certification. Use the wording from the Special Needs Jobs RBT resume guide:
- Active RBT: "Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), active"
- Training done, not certified: "Completed a 40-hour RBT training program on [date]; not yet RBT-certified."
- Training not started: "Applying for a behavior technician trainee role; not currently RBT-certified."
A starter layout
Contact line, target role, a one-line summary, credential status, relevant experience, education and training, skills you can back up with an example. Keep it readable on a phone.
Turn other work into relevant bullets
Instead of "good with kids," write what you did: "Supported classroom routines and transitions, then shared relevant observations with the lead teacher." Instead of "worked in healthcare," write: "Followed written care instructions, completed assigned records, and raised questions with the responsible supervisor." Use a line only if it describes your own work, and add numbers only if you tracked them.
Where to apply with no experience
Some ABA employers train new hires. The board's guide to entry-level ABA jobs with paid training explains what to look for, and each listing says whether training is stated.
If you're still working toward the credential, the steps to become an RBT in Georgia covers the 40-hour training, competency assessment and exam in order.
FAQ
Can I write RBT on my resume before I am certified? Not as a credential. State your training status instead.
Do I need to list clients? No. Leave out client details.
Is there a Word template? Yes, an editable one on the board.
Download it and then search RBT jobs that list training.
